Chase Smith Named Recipient of the 2025 Wheeler Broadcasting Minority Scholarship

Wheeler Media is proud to announce Chase Smith as the recipient of the 2025 Wheeler Broadcasting Minority Scholarship. A native of Amherst County and a rising senior at Virginia Union University, Chase is pursuing a degree in Mass Communications and has shown exceptional dedication to both her studies and her community.

From an early age, Chase was inspired by broadcasters like Robin Roberts—someone she admired not just for her professionalism, but for representing what was possible. That inspiration sparked a deep passion for media and storytelling. From middle school morning announcements to serving as editor of her high school newspaper The Amherite, Chase steadily built her skills and voice in journalism. In college, she became Vice President of the Mass Communications Club and host of the podcast Panther Talks, a student-led show that highlights campus life and gives students a platform to be heard. This fall, she will take on the role of Club President, with plans to launch a new student newscast and more long-form media content.

Chase’s impact extends well beyond the studio. She has volunteered extensively in local schools, supported community outreach events, led campus fundraisers, and produced media content that reflects her commitment to education, equity, and engagement. Her talents in broadcasting, her initiative, and her focus on lifelong learning make her a standout selection for this year’s award.

Please join us in congratulating Chase Smith on this well-deserved honor. Her future in broadcasting is bright—and just getting started.
